Player Recap
by Mathias Goldschild

“… We had kept alive the Captain of the Blue Wolves, Donner Myrak, and a few of the other mercenaries. The Laines came out from under the table. Our group went to check on them as they emerged. The Taroks were the first to notice the deceased Justine, Lady Tarok fainted at the sight and Lord Tarok was at a loss for words. Lord Metus was carried away by servants.

“The Guardians and Professor Laine burst through the doors of the hall shortly after the fighting had ended with Inquisitor Joslyn, a Mage Council Investigator, leading the charge on some floating disk. After establishing that my cohorts and I were not the people that killed Justine, the Guardians took our information while the Inquisitor began asking Arthur questions. Our group was asked to stay the night at the Laine manor until the Inquisitor could return the next day.”

Tanner paused for a moment and chuckled. "Oh yeah… Kingsley started flirting with the Inquisitor. I’ve never seen someone shut down so fast, or have a change in women that quickly.

“Before Arthur left with his fiancÈ, Tron began accusing him of conspiring to kill his sister and talking with some shady person just before dinner. I didn’t have cause to believe him then, but I didn’t have cause not to.

“Shane had a place at the Manor so we spent the night there. I would have returned to the barracks that night after the dinner, but circumstances kept me at the manor. I remember Oroso and Kingsley having a chat sometime during the night, but the details escape me now.

“Once morning had come, we returned to the hall for the morning meal. The five of us sat at the table and decided to poke our heads around the garden behind the Hall. You see, Shane had found potions of water breathing on the dead mercenaries and there was a well just outside the smashed window. Let me tell you, if the lamb was the best thing I will ever taste, the water breathing potion will be the worst. We tied ourselves together and jumped into the well. We followed the cavern under the well to a small air pocket where there was this door.”

“A door?”

“Yes, a door. A plain as the door behind me. Just standing there on the little land in that air pocket. We walked into… I’m sorry. Shane charged through the door. On the other side, and mind you, there wasn’t supposed to be anything on the other side, was what Kingsley said was ‘Emperor Kyder’s Doorways.’ This room was at least 10 stories high and every inch of wall was covered in doors. Apparently, every door- no… Any door in Mardenhold could be reached in this room.

“On the fourth floor, there was an open door. Naturally, we went through it. We emerged in a small cell with a shitty cot and shit all over the floors. I’m sorry, there was fecal matter everywhere…”

He must have noticed me blush at his language.

“As we traveled down some corridors, we came to this huge room with a map of the empire built into the floor, and paintings of other cities on the walls, and a sign that read ‘welcome’ in 20 different languages. We figured we were in the Immigration and Emigration building in Mardenhold.

“The room was barren so we continued down a hallway off of this main room. We came to an office room with what we gathered as planned for a some magnificent city known – that was going to be known as Whitecrest. We took some of the research on the city and pressed onward. As we rounded a corner, there was a zombie just standing there… Well, he wasn’t just standing there; he was trapped in this jelly cube creature who had a friend in an room right behind us. We disposed of them, but not before Shane took some serious wounds. Shane got his revenge on one of the cubes, though. Faster than I could blink my eye, his punches and kicks flew into the creature and it just burst right then and there.”

“Whoa…”

“It was quite the sight to see…”
